Portfolio site rebuilt with genjutsu's cast, paint and bunshin skills

A designer used genjutsu skills to give a portfolio a full look and motion.

What they did

They started from a rough portfolio repo and wanted it to feel like a real product rather than a template. First they ran /genjutsu:cast on the pricing and project cards, asking for the cards to feel physical on hover. The skill proposed an interaction thesis, showed it as a rendered page with a replay button, and after approval wrote the motion code in the stack already in the repo (React with vanilla CSS), then gave a short audit of what it changed. Next they ran /genjutsu:paint to establish the whole look: a brainstorm, a visual and interaction thesis, a MASTER.md design system, the rebuilt landing page, and a full audit. Because the project already had a partial brand, paint asked whether to keep the brand, change part of it, or redesign, and they chose to keep the palette and change the type and spacing. Finally, since the brief grew into a whole site, they ran /genjutsu:bunshin. It stated its cost up front, asked twice (tier, then direction), then an art director agent ran research, one builder per page, reviewers and fix rounds until a stop rule ended the loop. The output was the site plus DESIGN.md, AGENTS.md and a report of what was verified and what was not.

How it went

The portfolio came out with a coherent design system, consistent motion across cards and sections, and a documented handoff (MASTER.md, DESIGN.md, AGENTS.md). The bunshin run produced several pages in one pass with a verification report, though some pages needed a manual pass on copy and a couple of responsive breakpoints. Overall it felt like a strong first draft that needed light polish rather than a rewrite.

Worth knowing

bunshin is web only and costs more than the other two skills, so it is worth reserving for whole-site briefs. Install must use the URL with -g, not the repo name, or the skills arrive without their modules. The examples in the README are illustrative requests, not recorded runs, so results vary by stack and repo state. Motion and design decisions still need human review, especially accessibility and reduced-motion handling.

Wiring

Install the skills globally with npx skills add https://genjutsu.athevon.dev -g, or add the plugin marketplace inside a Claude Code session with /plugin marketplace add AThevon/genjutsu then /plugin install genjutsu to get /genjutsu:cast, /genjutsu:paint and /genjutsu:bunshin. Run cast first for a single interaction, approve the thesis, then paint for the design system and page, then bunshin for a multi-page site. bunshin needs its supporting modules and is web only; keep it last because it states cost and asks for tier and direction before spawning the art director, builders and reviewers.

Try it yourself

Look at this repo and tell me which genjutsu skill fits: I want the landing page and project cards to feel more physical and intentional, and I may want a full redesign if the current look is too generic. Start with /genjutsu:cast on the cards, show me the interaction thesis as a rendered page with a replay button before writing code, then use /genjutsu:paint to set a MASTER.md design system for the stack already here. If the brief turns into a whole site, propose /genjutsu:bunshin once with its cost before running it.
