Document-to-deck pipeline: PDF/DOCX/URL in, native editable PPTX out
Discovered from README cross-links · 2 days ago
Turned a long PDF into a structured, editable PowerPoint deck via an agent.
What they did
Started from a 40-page PDF (a market study) and wanted a 12-slide internal briefing rather than a screenshot-style deck. Installed ppt-master locally, pointed the agent at the PDF, and asked for an outline first: title slide, agenda, three findings slides, a comparison table, a risks slide, and a closing recommendation. Reviewed the outline, cut two slides, then let the agent generate the PPTX. Because ppt-master emits native PowerPoint shapes and text boxes rather than images, the output opened cleanly in PowerPoint and every text block was editable. They then restyled fonts and colors to match a company template, fixed a couple of overflowing bullet boxes, and swapped in their own chart data. The whole loop took roughly an hour, most of it spent on outline review and visual polish rather than fighting the file format.
How it went
Produced a 10-slide editable deck that needed only light manual polish: font/color alignment to the house template, two text-box overflow fixes, and replacing placeholder chart numbers with real data. Structure and narrative came out usable on the first pass; visual design was plain and needed human taste applied.
Worth knowing
Output quality tracks the source document and the outline you approve — skip the outline review and you get generic slides. Complex custom layouts, brand-perfect templates, and heavy data visualization still need manual work. Requires a capable model with long context for large PDFs, plus a local Node/Python environment; the README leans on sponsor API relays, so check current install steps and any API key setup before running.
Wiring
1) Clone the ppt-master repo and follow its install instructions (dependencies plus any model/API configuration). 2) Place source documents in a working folder inside the repo. 3) Run the agent (Codex or a similar CLI agent) from the repo root so it can see ppt-master's scripts and templates. 4) Prompt in two phases: outline-only first, then generation after approval, so the agent writes the PPTX via ppt-master's generator rather than hand-rolling XML. 5) Open the resulting .pptx in PowerPoint or LibreOffice for styling and data fixes.
Try it yourself
Read the PDF at ./source/market-study.pdf and build a 12-slide internal briefing deck with ppt-master. First give me only an outline (slide titles plus 3-5 bullets each) and wait for my approval. After I approve, generate a native editable PPTX at ./out/deck.pptx using a clean 16:9 layout, one idea per slide, and a comparison table slide. Do not use screenshots or images for text.
